Details of this 5 days desert trip from Fes
Day 1:  Fes –  Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Merzouga Desert

Cedar forest

The fascinating city old Medina is where our five days from Fes to Marrakech. Our group gathers eagerly as the early sun casts a golden glow over the city. The air fills with the aroma of freshly made mint tea, igniting the excitement for what is ahead. We head into the stunning Moroccan countryside, leaving Fes behind, our reliable guide guiding the way. Our first stop, Merzouga, is reached by a route that winds through a mosaic of terrains, including rocky outcrops, lush plains, and the towering Atlas Mountains.

We arrive at Ifrane, which is sometimes referred to as “Little Switzerland,” because of its distinctive architecture with a European influence and immaculate streets. We continue our journey and arrive in the fascinating Cedar Forest, home to free-ranging Barbary macaques. Using cameras, we observe these amusing animals in their own environment, which is an absolutely amazing experience.

The scenery changes once more as the day goes on, offering expansive views of the desert as we cross the Talghmt pass. The Ziz Valley, a stunning oasis amidst breathtaking dry scenery, is our next destination. We are in awe of nature’s creation when we look out over the Ziz Gorges.

After enjoying a delectable lunch of Moroccan cuisine, we go on to Erfoud, a town renowned for its fossilized remnants of ancient animals. We arrive in Merzouga, our gateway to the Sahara, by late afternoon at our cozy desert hotel. Enjoying a typical Moroccan meal and a peaceful night’s sleep under a starry sky, the peaceful evening is spent getting ready for the beauties of the desert.

Day 2: Explore the Erg Chebbi area

5 days desert trip from Fes five days from Fes to Marrakech

In Merzouga, where towering sand dunes appear to stretch forever, waking up is like entering a different planet. We have a substantial breakfast before setting out for a long day of desert exploration. We go on a 4×4 off-road adventure across rolling dunes that change color in response to the changing light, taking us deep into the heart of the Sahara. Every crest offers a fresh viewpoint and a distinct hue of gold.

When we visit a nomadic family, we experience one of the most treasured moments of the journey: we are greeted with mint tea and the warmth of Berber hospitality. Under the boundless sky of the desert, we exchange stories and learn about their way of life. We travel through the desert until we arrive at the settlement of Khamlia, which is home to the dark-skinned tribes of Morocco who are originally from Ghana. A captivating display of traditional music and African dances is presented to us here, offering a unique cultural experience.

We get to try Berber pizza for lunch, which is served outside among the dunes. A little stroll through a verdant oasis offers a welcome diversion from the parched desert surrounds. It’s time to meet up with our lovely, unwavering camel companions as the afternoon fades and take a journey into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Words cannot express the weird atmosphere created by the breathtaking sunset and the tranquility of the desert. With a campfire to gather around, the soothing beat of native drums, and a boundless canvas of stars overhead, our night in the desert camp is magical.

Day 3: Sahara Desert – Ouzina Desert, Ramlia Oasis,  and Night in Tafraout Sidi Ali

3 Days Outing from Marrakech to Fes, 3 Days Outing from Marrakech to sahara, 3-Days Marrakech to fes,

On the third day of our 5 days desert trip from Fes,  we will sink into the vast Sahara. After taking in the breathtaking Merzouga sunrise as part of a morning ritual that will live in memory. The lengthy shadows created by the golden hues over the dunes give an incredibly calming and reassuring sense of being in tune with nature.

We travel to Rissani, a town well-known for its traditional souks, after breakfast. You can tour the busy marketplaces here, where both residents and visitors exchange items and haggle over treasures. A window into the core of Morocco’s ancient trading culture can be found in the souks.

As we go more into the isolated Ouzina Desert, the scenery seems increasingly bizarre. Enormous dunes and desolate plains are examples of nature’s artistic creations in the vast, open desert. A visit to the Ramlia Oasis provides a peaceful green haven amidst the striking splendor of the desert. Eventually, we will arrive in Tafraoute to spend the night at a guesthouse and experience the  Berber hospitality and food.

Day 4: Sidi Ali-  Todra Canyons – Dades Valley – Ouarzazate

5 days desert trip from Fes five days from Fes to Marrakech

After the typical Moroccan breakfast, prepare us for a day full of even more breathtaking scenery and cross-cultural interactions. We headed for Alnif, a little village renowned for its distinct local charm and friendliness.

The Todra Canyons are without a doubt the day’s high point. The impression of being in another universe is created by these imposing, striking rock structures, which resemble old passageways sculpted by the forces of nature. We take the time to explore and take in the magnificence of the Todra Gorge, a geological marvel.

We head out of the canyons and into the aromatic Rose Valley, where the sweet aroma of Damask roses in full bloom permeates the air. A trip to a nearby cooperative offers insight into the long-standing custom of creating goods based on roses, ranging from culinary treats to perfumes.

As the day draws to a close, we travel to Ouarzazate, which is sometimes referred to as the “Hollywood of Africa” because of the large number of foreign films that have been filmed there. Ouarzazate is a monument to Morocco’s burgeoning film industry as well as a point of entry to the breathtaking Atlas Mountains.

Day 5: Ouarzazate – Atlas mountains – Marrakech

About Morocco Tours

On the last day of our amazing five days from Fes to Marrakech, we drive via the magnificent Atlas Mountains to get to Marrakech from Ouarzazate. These majestic mountains, covered with snow throughout the winter, are a sight to behold and a symbol of Morocco’s diverse topography.

On this round of the voyage, we start at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the old Ait Benhaddou. With its clay homes and meandering alleyways, this historic and well-preserved kasbah is a fascinating example of traditional Moroccan architecture. It makes sense that it has served as the setting for so many TV series and films.

Our drive continues across the Atlas Mountains, where we see the change from barren desert regions to lush green valleys. This abrupt change in environment provides a peek into Morocco’s amazing geographical diversity.

We arrive in Marrakech by afternoon, the thriving and busy city that serves as the culmination of our amazing five days from Fes to Marrakech. After being left off at your hotel, you’ll have greater respect for Morocco’s people, culture, and scenic splendor in addition to many happy memories.

This tour has way far beyond my expectation. Before I went, I got Addi’s contact’s through my friend who just came back from Morocco. Addi is very friendly, well organized and has knowledge as well as passion for what he does. He showed us around the Marrakech, Fez, Sahara Desert and Chefchaouen. During our 10 days stay here, Addi arranged his time with our schedule and is very flexible. Also, he helped to arranged our camps & visit during the Sahara (with another guide Joseph who is also very nice). I would strongly recommand this tour to whoever would go to Morocco especially for people who is travelling from China – they have good team in China so you will have a worry free trip.

We were very pleased with Addi as our driver throughout our recent week-long Morocco trip. From the moment he picked us up till the moment he dropped us off, he was polite, patient, and attentive consistently. We, a group of 4, traveled from different countries to meet up in Casablanca. Our inbound flights landed at different times and outbound flights departed at different times too. Addi waited for all of us for an entire day and took multiple trips to send us off without a complaint.

He spoke excellent English, which I later found out was very rare and definitely a big plus. None of us spoke any French or Arabic. So when we had to communicate with locals, Addi stepped in and served as a translator for us, which helped us a big time! He also shared stories about Morocco history and local attractions during our trip, which made long ride much more interesting. He drove very carefully. We felt very safe and comfortable when he was driving (we had a different driver for 2 days and the compare and contrast made us appreciate Addi as our driver even more).

Addi was also very kind. While we drove from Chefchaouen to Casablanca, Addi saw a tiny puppy stranded in the middle of the road. He stopped his car, got out, and ran to pick up the puppy and dropped it off at a safe spot. We were all very touched. But this just highlighted what a nice person Addi is. Thank you Addi for your service during our trip 🙂

It was an amazing trip to Sahara, ever since we were picked up by Hamid at Marrakech, the wonderful trip began. Hamid is really nice, fun, friendly guy that we wouldn’t ask for more, with his hospitality, we feel at home. And the whole trip was well organized, so that we could enjoy every fantastic view during the trip. If you have plan to visit Morocco some time, I would highly recommend Hamid to be your tour guide, travelling with him you can see all the best side of Morocco people and fall in love with this country.

Spending the night under a sky full of stars in our fancy camps in the Sahara was the highlight of our 2 week Moroccan adventure! A must if you visit Morocco. Addi was great from the very beginning via email and WhatsApp in coordinating our excursion.

Our driver Aziz was wonderful, informative, and made us feel totally comfortable throughout the 3 days we spend with him in our private tour. Our long drives were a great way to see the Moroccan countryside and beautiful Atlas mountains. We hope to return and spend more time in The Sahara in the future and will book through Days Morocco Tours again without hesitation.
